Over the years, air travel has become more cumbersome, stressful, and unpredictable, due to long lines, delays, cancellations, shrinking legroom, and smaller seats. As a result, more people are taking to the road instead. Road trips offer something that air travel cannot, such as freedom to leave when you want, flexibility to stop when needed, and power to travel on your own terms.
What budgeting tips do you have for people looking to hit the open road?
First and foremost, do not fall victim to believing that you will be better financially in the immediate future (e.g., next year) than you are today. There are no guarantees to bring this to fruition.
Therefore, set a budget and strictly abide by it. It can be very difficult and challenging to function on a limited budget but turning being frugal into a game. Seek out ways to reduce necessary expenses. Do not be timid. Ask for available discounts for your age demographic (e.g., senior, student, etc.).
