Cannon Beach Coffee Shops & Bakeries

coffee, coffee grinds, cafe

If you are a Starbucks coffee fanatic, you can find the coffee chain and its smiling baristas in Seaside, a 15-minute drive north. Thankfully, Cannon Beach houses excellent coffee shops and bakeries to provide a caffeine boost and a bite of sugary goodness. Let’s drink in the options so you can find the best fit for your tastes.

Sleepy Monk Coffee Roaster

  • Location: 1235 South Hemlock Street, Cannon Beach, OR 97110
  • Hours: Monday and Tuesday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm; closed Wednesday and Thursday; Friday through Sunday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm

Located south of downtown Cannon Beach, Sleepy Monk sits on the main thoroughfare just north of Haystack Rock. The cozy coffee shop, a favorite of locals and tourists alike, offers delicious pastries baked daily, coffee, espresso drinks, chai, hot chocolate, and an excellent selection of teas.

You will find an Irish flag out front to signal you have arrived. Note Sleepy Monk is closed for January and will reopen on February 6, 2023.

The Sleepy Monk coffee shop prides itself on brilliant, rich, and complex coffee served by staff as warm and friendly as its coffee. Their coffee features internationally-sourced organic beans roasted locally in small batches.

The great coffee shop serves a broad range of roasts and blends, appealing to various tastes. Admittedly, with such a wide variety of beans, the menu can be intimidating to a visitor. Sleepy Monk suggests you start with Fiddler’s Fusion if you favor light roasts and Monastery Blend if you prefer a darker roast.

A few other highlights include:

  • Cannon Beach Brackish Brew – a French Roast dark stout brew with sharp undertones and a smoky finish
  • Bogmans Brew – a dark blend with layers of bold, robust, dark, and spicy flavors
  • Monk’s Choice Blend – a rich and smooth medium-dark roast
  • Bali Blue Moon – a smooth medium roast that is well balanced and earthy with notes of peat, charred wood, toasted nut, and light chocolate

Remember to top your drink with their signature chocolate whipped cream!

Insomnia Coffee Company

  • Hours: Monday, 8:00 am to 12:30 pm; Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Conveniently located one block from the beach, you can sip your hot cup of joe on your peaceful morning beach walk. Or, you can savor your coffee in the cozy shop next to their fireplace. Insomnia Coffee Company offers dine-in, to-go, and mobile orders.

Their sister company, Dapper & Wise, operates as a coffee roaster. They highlight the unique flavors of origin and variety, emphasizing sweetness and clarity. Dapper & Wise carries blends like Ethiopia, Colombia, Kenya, Highbrow, and Winter Wonderland.

All their specialty coffees bring comfort, but two deserve recognition. Highbrow Blend is a medium roast with comforting notes of chocolate, walnut, and cola, while Winter Wonderland is a seasonal blend with hints of baked pear, butter caramel, and clove.

Insomnia Coffee serves various drinks, including espresso, Americano, latte, cappuccino, cortado, and macchiato.

The Insomnia Coffee Company menu includes latte varieties like:

  • Chai latte
  • Matcha latte
  • Pumpkin spice latte

Mocha variations include:

  • Aztec mocha
  • White mocha
  • Black and white mocha
  • Raspberry mocha

They offer iced coffee versions as well.

If you prefer tea, Insomnia Coffee has you covered. Various teas, hot and cold, can be purchased. Two stand out:

  • Blimey O’riley – Earl grey tea, vanilla syrup, and cream over ice
  • Summer Eclipse – Earl grey tea, blackberry syrup, and orange juice layered over ice

You can order a mug of hot chocolate, Italian soda, or a steamer for the kids. A steamer comprises steamed milk, flavoring of your choice, and a frothy whipped cream topping.
