Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe: Attractions, Dining, and Power-Up Fun

I still remember the thrill of playing Donkey Kong in arcades and on my Atari 2600—yes, I’m dating myself. Later, it was Mario Kart with my kids. They smoked me in every race, but I didn’t mind. It was never about winning—it was about laughing together, sharing time, and watching those pixelated worlds come to life.

So when I stepped into Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe, it wasn’t just a theme park—it was a reunion with old friends and favorite memories. Here’s what you can expect from this vibrant, interactive land where nostalgia and next-gen thrills collide.

Where Is Super Nintendo World?

Super Nintendo World is one of five immersive lands inside Universal’s Epic Universe, the newest theme park in Orlando. Located on Universal’s south campus, it sits about 15 minutes from the existing Universal Orlando Resort.

Once inside Epic Universe, you’ll enter Super Nintendo World through a themed portal—just like the other lands in the park. And yes, it’s as magical as it sounds.

Where to Stay

If you want to stay close to the action, Universal’s Stella Nova and Terra Luna Resorts are your best bets. Both are located near Epic Universe and offer early park admission and transportation.

For a splurge, the Helios Grand Hotel sits inside Epic Universe itself, offering views of Celestial Park and easy access to all five lands—including Super Nintendo World.

From Console to Reality

This land is a love letter to Nintendo fans. It’s split into two areas: Super Mario Land and Donkey Kong Country. You’ll explore Peach’s Castle, Bowser’s Fortress, and the jungles of the Golden Temple—all brought to life with kinetic energy, sound effects, and interactive surprises.

The storyline? You’re not just visiting—you’re part of the game. Whether you’re racing Team Bowser or helping Donkey Kong protect the Golden Banana, you’re in the action.

Entering the Warp Pipe

Like the other lands in Epic Universe, Super Nintendo World is hidden behind a portal. This one? A giant green warp pipe—simple, iconic, and impossible not to smile at. Above the entrance, Mario’s famous catchphrase greets you in golden letters: “Here we go!”

As we stepped through, I felt a wave of nostalgia hit me. The colors, the music, the stained-glass windows of Peach’s Castle—it made me feel like a kid again. Glancing at my own kids beside me on the escalator, I could see it in their faces too: that spark of wonder, that shared moment where the game we loved was suddenly real.

It’s a jaw-dropping transition—from real world to Mushroom Kingdom in a single, unforgettable step.

Super Nintendo World Rides

There are three main attractions in Super Nintendo World, and each one brings a different kind of magic. Whether you’re chasing coins, dodging barrels, or spotting hidden eggs, these rides pull you into the game in ways that feel both nostalgic and brand new.

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge

Height requirement: 40″ (102 cm)

This is the headliner—and it delivers. The queue alone is worth the wait: you’ll wind through Bowser’s Castle, past towering statues, trophy cases, and bookshelves filled with clever nods to the games (yes, “Feng Shui for Dungeons” is a real title). It’s immersive, detailed, and sets the stage perfectly.

Once you board your kart and don your AR visor, the ride becomes a whirlwind of color, chaos, and competition. You’ll steer, aim, and fire shells as you race through iconic tracks alongside Mario and friends. It’s not just a ride—it’s Mario Kart brought to life.

Mine-Cart Madness

Height requirement: 40″ (102 cm)

Don’t let the “family coaster” label fool you—this one packs a punch. Inspired by the Donkey Kong Country games, Mine-Cart Madness uses a unique “boom coaster” system to simulate track-jumping mine carts. The result? It’s a herky-jerky, high-energy ride that feels like it’s leaping off the rails (safely, of course).

You’ll help Donkey Kong protect the Golden Banana as you speed through the Golden Temple, dodging barrels and bouncing through the jungle. It’s fast, fun, and full of surprises. This one caught us off guard—in the best way.

Yoshi’s Adventure

Height requirement: 34″ (86 cm)

Designed with younger guests in mind, Yoshi’s Adventure is a gentle omnimover ride that winds through the Mushroom Kingdom. But don’t skip it—this relaxing joy ride is packed with charm and Easter eggs.

You’ll ride atop colorful Yoshis, searching for glowing eggs and spotting familiar faces along the way. The views are great, the pace is peaceful, and the details are delightful. It’s a great breather between thrill rides—and a must for fans of the green dino.

Interactive Gameplay and Power-Up Bands

Super Nintendo World isn’t just about watching the action—it’s about being part of it. With a Power-Up Band (sold separately), you can punch blocks, collect digital coins, complete challenges, and even unlock a secret boss battle.

Scattered throughout the land are Key Challenges—mini-games that test your reflexes and timing. Spin a crank to knock over a Goomba, silence alarm clocks before a Piranha Plant wakes up, or time a POW Block punch to launch a Koopa shell. Complete at least three of these and you’ll earn access to the Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown, a fast-paced interactive finale where you duck, jump, and swipe your way to victory.

You’ll also find Punch Blocks, hidden tap points, and digital slot machines that reward exploration. Every interaction adds coins to your total and helps your team climb the leaderboard—yes, you’re part of a team based on your band’s character.

If you love interactive elements, you’ll want to check out The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, another Epic Universe land that leans heavily into spell-casting and immersive storytelling. We’ve got a full guide to that magical world too.

Super Nintendo World Food and Drinks

Themed dining is a big part of the experience here. Highlights include:

  • Toadstool Café – Watch Chef Toad whip up dishes while you dine on items like the Luigi Burger, Super Mushroom Soup, and Mt. Beanpole Cake. The windows show animated scenes from the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Yoshi’s Snack Island – Grab a melon smoothie or fruit-based drink near Mount Beanpole.
  • The Bubbly Barrel – Located in Donkey Kong Country, this tropical kiosk serves fizzy drinks and sweet treats under a thatched roof.
  • Turbo Boost Treats – A snack stand themed to Mario Kart, perfect for a quick refuel.

The food is playful, photogenic, and surprisingly tasty.

You’ll find plenty of familiar faces roaming the land:

  • Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad are available for meet-and-greets in Super Mario Land.
  • Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong make appearances in Donkey Kong Country.
  • Some characters even talk and interact with guests—adding to the immersion.

Don’t forget to scan your Power-Up Band during interactions to collect digital stamps and coins.

Merch from the Mushroom Kingdom

If you’re the type who likes to take a piece of the adventure home, Super Nintendo World has you covered. Themed merchandise is everywhere—and it’s as playful and creative as the land itself.

  • 1-UP Factory – The flagship store in Super Mario Land, packed with plushies, apparel, and collectibles featuring Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and more. Look for character hats, headbands, and even a convertible cushion that hides a Super Mushroom inside.
  • Mario Motors – Located at the exit of Bowser’s Challenge, this shop is a victory lap for Mario Kart fans. You’ll find racing-themed gear, exclusive team merch, and items inspired by the game’s iconic cups.
  • Funky’s Fly ‘n’ Buy – Donkey Kong Country’s tropical outpost, offering jungle-ready swag like banana-shaped fanny packs, DK mugs, and Diddy Kong keychains.

You’ll also spot themed popcorn buckets, sippers, and wearable accessories throughout the land. Whether you’re Team Mario or Team Donkey Kong, there’s something here to power up your collection.

Atmosphere After Dark

At night, Super Nintendo World glows—literally and emotionally. Coins spin, blocks pulse, and the whole land hums with energy. The lighting effects are subtle but magical, especially in Donkey Kong Country, where waterfalls shimmer and torches flicker like something out of a jungle dream.

I didn’t expect this land to move me the way it did after dark. But under the bright lights and dynamic setting, it stirred something deeper—a wave of nostalgia and joy I hadn’t anticipated. Watching the Mushroom Kingdom come alive at night brought back memories of late-night gaming sessions and childhood wonder. Glancing around at my kids, I could tell they felt it, too.

It’s absolutely worth staying late to see the transformation. The land doesn’t just light up—it levels up.
